The Barnard Difference

Each Pre-College student enrolls in one of our immersive programs, whether that is an institute, lab, or a college-credit course, as part of their summer experience at Barnard. Faculty and Student Course Assistants lead engaging classes and activities that bring course material to life. Our team designs meaningful experiences that extend beyond the classroom, from tours of New York City’s cultural institutions and guest lectures, to labs and workshops where students engage in hands-on, personalized learning.

Students in Barnard’s Pre-College Programs have the unique opportunity to use New York City as an extension of the classroom. Throughout the summer, you might attend a Broadway show, visit world-renowned museums and cultural institutions, explore different neighborhoods, or participate in professional events around the city.

At Barnard’s Pre-College Programs, leadership development does not end when class is over for the day. Through evening and weekend activities, workshops, and community-building events, students practice leading conversations, collaborating across differences, and reflecting on their own strengths and values.
